The tree survey includes a whole range of detailed information about the trees that will assist in determining which trees will be retained and which will be removed, making the decision process easier for everyone involved. This information includes:

- Physical measurements, including its height and diameter
- Age of the tree
- Health of the tree
- How long the tree is expected to live
- Recommendations on management of the tree
Do I Have to Do a Tree Survey?
Tree surveys are mandatory in some regions to protect trees from being cut down accidentally. They are usually carried out when someone intends to build on land that includes trees or land close to trees.
How Can Tree Survey Information Be Used?
The information is useful to several people, including, for instance, landscape designers. They will base the designs they create, in part, on the information collected. The landscape designer will make decisions on which trees to remove, although there may be restrictions against removing some of the trees that are protected by law. The survey will also point out potential hazards, for example, trees that are liable to fall in strong winds or due to disease. If this is the case the tree will be removed safely.

They should only be undertaken by fully trained and qualified arboriculturalist. They should present the information gathered in an easy to understand way with all of the trees tagged and numbered.
