We are very pleased to welcome Emma Parsons to the Ellendale team, who will lead on our offering of environmental noise surveys, noise assessments and noise management. Emma, who is based in Edinburgh, has over 14 years’ experience in Acoustics - with particular focus on Environmental Noise – and is a full corporate member of the Institute of Acoustics (MIOA).
Emma’s work at Ellendale will involve providing clients with environmental noise monitoring, noise impact assessments and reports in support of planning applications for their future developments. She has provided such support for proposed housing developments, wind farms, biomass/CHP/AD plants, hydro schemes, substations, supermarkets, quarries and offices.
Emma is also interested in and has recent experience in helping operational sites measure, assess and manage their noise emissions – this is often required as part of their licences and permits to operate – and is able to discuss and negotiate with regulatory bodies such as a local authority’s Environmental Health team and also SEPA. Recently, Emma has provided such support for a waste and recycling centre, completing quarterly noise surveys and reports to demonstrate compliance with the site’s daytime noise limit at its closest neighbours.
Working in Acoustics has provided Emma with experience across the UK and also internationally – she has undertaken a noise impact assessment for a proposed biomass plant in Namibia and has recently been involved in reviewing noise assessments for a number of proposed wind farms in Lebanon.
It’s not always glamorous – as noise surveys can often be required during unsocial hours and in very remote locations – but it is always interesting, challenging and rewarding. Emma was particularly proud to be involved in the team behind the successful planning application (in principle) for an onshore substation for the Inch Cape Offshore Wind Farm.
Emma’s interests also lie in the management of noise from long-term construction projects – particularly for large infrastructure projects such as road and rail – and has experience of such developments through working with the construction teams behind a new rail link in central Scotland, the Edinburgh tram and the A9 dualling.
Ellendale Environmental is excited to add this capability to the team and can already see the synergies and opportunities – not least, through our extensive bat survey work, where Emma has found a brand-new area of Acoustics to get interested in!
