Bat Mitigation – Supervised Roof Strip

Any works undertaken on a bat roost require a license from the appropriate Statutory Nature Conservation Organisation (SNCO), Natural England (NE) Scottish Natural Heritage (SNH) or Natural Resources Wales (NRW).

The license is based on a method statement for the works and mitigation / compensation plan. The mitigation plan is site / roost dependent but will include the timing of work and methodology on the proposed works.

Where bats are to be excluded from an existing roost it may be it may also be necessary for an appropriately experienced and license bat ecologist to supervise a ‘soft strip’ of the parts of the building.

Ellendale environmental recently undertook a watching brief with our client to strip a roof of a building as part of the mitigation under the approved license.
